As DREAMANIAC opens, the viewer finds a naked man walking down a foggy, weirdly lighted hallway.   He enters the bathroom and pulls aside the shower curtain to find a naked woman smiling at him invitingly from a blood-spattered shower.  They begin to kiss and grope one another, when suddenly the man opens his mouth in a blood curdling scream!

Never fear, though, because this turns out to be only a dream had by the film's main character, Adam.   Adam is a professional heavy metal lyric writer, who, as it turns out, dabbles in Satanism (and looks like a total dork, I might add -- short hair, glasses and all!), and he is obsessed with the woman in his dreams, despite the fact that he has a real-life girlfriend (Pat) who is much prettier.   Giving into his obsession, Adam uses his limited occult knowledge to bring Lily (his dream woman) into the real world, unaware that she is actually a murderous succubus!   Dumb luck, that!

After spending a passion-filled night with Lily, however, Adam begins to suspect something isn't quite right when he finds a mutilated cat in his attic.   He doesn't have much time to deal with that, however, since he's rented out his house for a party thrown by Pat's sister.   Y'see, Jody (the sister) is trying to get into a snooty sorority, which is run by a bitch-on-wheels, Frances, who secretly lusts after Jody's boyfriend Brad.   Frances has the best line of the movie, which she delivers when she meets Pat.   Pat asks, "Do I know you?" to which Frances replies: "I doubt it.   I've gone to private schools all my life and I'm rich as shit.", to which Pat says (in another fairly funny line), "Oh that's right, you're Frances.   I thought I recognized those small tits."

Anyway, as the party gets going, one of the young men shows up with a hitch hiker he picked up on the way -- none other than Lily!   Lily proceeds to begin killing the party goers in various, imaginative (yeah, right!) ways.  Eventually, the remaining partiers realize what's happening, and try to fight back.   But Adam is torn between his lust for Lily and his feelings for Pat, and he and Pat must battle Lily for Adam's soul -- and the lives of the others!

RATING:

DREAMANIAC is one of the less interesting movies in the horror genre.   Basically, you have a party with a demonic killer, and a bunch of young people whose sole purpose in the plot is to get slaughtered.    Standard fare, very bloody, with the occasional clever line and an attempt at a somewhat original "twist" ending, which unfortunately falls just short of being clever.

In the opening scene, there is a naked man and woman in a love scene;  the viewer sees the man's butt and the woman's breasts.    Ironically, actress Kim McKamy -- who later became a porn star -- remains modestly covered in her love scene.

SCENES THAT MAKE ME GO "HMMM...,":

1. The "sorority girls" in this movie are some of the most unconvincing actresses I've ever seen, and one of them does a "valley girl" so bad it would give Moon Zappa a stroke!  The best thing about this movie is that THAT character was the first to get it!

2. The sorority Jody is trying to get into is filled with rich, sophisticated girls.   So what does one of the "sisters" suggest as a party activity?   Why, the most sophisticated pass time ever -- charades!

3. There are several scenes in this movie where the sorority sisters are trying to seduce the frat boys, who aren't really interested in sex.   Frat boys uninterested in getting laid?   On what planet is THIS happening?

DID YOU KNOW...,:

 -   Director/producer David DeCoteau also directed the cult classic, SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-O-RAMA.

 -   Kim McKamy, who played Pat in DREAMANIAC, later "branched out" to become popular XXX film actress Ashlyn Gere.
